Neanderthal Ed Sheeran WIP


I've been thinking about new ways to conceptualise time beyond traditional markers like the Bible, cave paintings, carbon dating, or fossils—forms of documentation that record and measure human existence. This led me to reflect on the landscape of the internet, where I began to think about YouTube or Spotify streams as unique units of time. Each stream equaling one unit of time.


If we consider the total number of streams for Ed Sheeran's 'Shape of You'—now the second most streamed song in existence—as individual units of linear time, each stream adding up one by one, we find that collectively, we've listened to the song for over 32,000 years. To put that into perspective, 32,000 years ago, the Earth was still in the Ice Age, and Neanderthals roamed the land. Inspired by this scale, I am designing a 32,000-year-old Neanderthal version of Ed Sheeran. My goal is to 3D print him and bring him to life through animation. This is the character so far...
